Second Chances
Not all boards begin as pristine pieces of lumber. Some come from items that someone wanted to repurpose.
These two boards came from a tabletop I got at a thrift store.
When Cheryl’s antique desk couldn’t find a place in her new home, she couldn’t bear to part with it. Instead of throwing it out, we transformed it into a show-quality cutting board and a coffee table for a family member!
I grew up watching Dad build things at his workbench. He taught me life lessons disguised as woodworking. When his old workbench had to go, there was no way I could part with it. So, it was converted into a cutting board for my son, James the 3rd. The inlaid Roman number III ensures he will always remember where it came from and who it honors.

Do you even know what a deadlift jack is? I didn’t, but my brother requested this one built from 1 1/2″ thick ash and engraved with the artwork from his home gym.
Tony inherited this Lane cedar chest from his great aunt. It was built in 1948 but was nearly destroyed in a flood. 15 hours of restoration has it looking better than new!
It’s All About The Oil
